Most people in modern society have a car. Once a luxury for the amusement of the ultra-rich, automobiles are now considered more or less a necessity, and all social classes have access to a vehicle. However, despite this dramatic change over the course of the car’s history, the market for extravagant vehicles has not disappeared. Here are ten cars that only the richest of the rich could even dream of owning. Still, that does not have to stop you from imagining the look on your mechanic’s face if you brought one of these bad boys into your local San Diego auto shop for a tune up.
10. Koenigsegg CCXR ($1.2 million USD): This Swedish car is the first FlexFuel sports car. It can run on gasoline or ethanol for cleaner emissions. It also makes use of Bioethanol to boost its horsepower over 200.
9. Maybach Landaulet ($1.4 million): This German car resurrects an early 20th design feature now in disuse: the roof over the back seat is convertible, while it remains fixed over the driver. These cars are custom-built and can be ordered with designs like a coat of arms, etc.
8. Lamborghini Reventon ($1.4 million): Only 20 models were ever built. It holds the distinction of being both the most expensive and most powerful Lamborghini ever made, taking only about 3 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour. It can reach a top speed of 211 mph.
7. Pagani Zonda Cinque ($1.4 million): This Italian powerhouse has a V12 engine, 678 horsepower, a top speed of 217 mph, and can go from 0 to 60 in 3 seconds. “Cinque” is Italian for “five,” which is how many were built, so do not expect to get one for yourself.
6. Bugatti Veyron 16.4 ($1.5 million): With a distinctive two-tone finish, a top speed of 253 mph, and the ability to reach 60 mph in 2.5 seconds, this car will not disappoint those who can afford it.
5. Aston Martin One-77 ($1.6 million): A limited edition car with only 77produced (none are still available), this car has won numerous design awards.
4. Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport ($2 million): Yep, you guessed it – an even more luxurious version of the Veyron 16.4. The most notable feature is a removable tinted glass roof.
3. Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita ($5 million): “Trevita” translates to “Three White,” which makes sense since only three were made and they are covered in diamonds. The ultimate in luxury.
2. Maybach Exelero ($8 million): A German model commissioned by Fulda Tyres to use as a reference vehicle for testing new types of tires, it was based on Maybach’s classic 1930s sports cars.
1. Rolls Royce Silver Ghost ($75 million): Though not a production model, it is certainly the most expensive car in the world. It is kept in a sealed room at BMW’s headquarters and is only removed to be displayed at Pebble Beach car shows.
